What is Semaglutide?
Semaglutide
Mechanism of Action
Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist with 94% amino acid sequence homology to native human GLP-1. It works by mimicking the effects of endogenous GLP-1, binding to and activating the GLP-1 receptor. This leads to glucose-dependent insulin secretion, reduced glucagon release, and delayed gastric emptying. Research indicates it also acts on brain regions involved in appetite regulation.
